Ranch Style Stew

    Add stew meat to heated shortening in a Dutch oven and slowly brown on all sides.

    Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

    When meat is almost done, add raw vegetables (potatoes, carrots, onions).

  4. 4

    Continue to simmer until all vegetables are tender (about 30 minutes).

  5. 5

    Serve in bowls with slaw and cornbread.

  6. 6

    Can be stretched to serve more by adding additional vegetables.
